About Victorian Britain 1881

Victorian Britain is an exciting, online, interactive exploration of a Victorian industrial town as seen through the eyes of its inhabitants. Thirteen characters, from a wide range of backgrounds, can be questioned about their lives as they take you on different journeys along animated streets. Our characters are based on detailed research of real people and events, including their jobs and daily lives.

The inhabitants of our town live in a faithful reconstruction of Burton upon Trent in the Midlands, as it was in 1881. Over 450 buildings, from signal boxes and warehouses to water towers and shops, have been accurately computer-modelled to provide a stunning and evocative historical backdrop.

The Victorian Britain Box-set contains two CD-ROM's with extensive resources for teachers, parents and children to use across a wide variety of curricula and comes with a 12 month license to access the extensive, organic online learning resources.

In addition to the CD-ROM, Victorian Britain is also accessed on the World Wide Web. Material can be used in any number of different ways, from individual work on a network and class work using an interactive white board, to dressing up and storytelling. It is a resource intended to stimulate and give purpose to children’s writing, but it also opens up tremendous possibilities for such activities as debate, drama and art work.

Using the interactivity of the Web we have created Victorian storylines that will grow over time. New scenarios will be developed using feedback gathered from participating schools and individuals. Challenging topics are covered, such as bullying and theft.

Whatever your curriculum or learning needs Victorian Britain will allow you to interact with the stories and develop them into your own creative writing projects.
